Born in Geneva, Sebastian Jacot began studying music at the age of six. Today he holds the position as Principal Flute at the prestigious Berliner Philharmoniker.

Before he gained this acclaimed role, he covered the same position at the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig for seven years. A unique artist of his genre, defined by critics as “a flute rock star”, he gained a reputation as one of the most brilliant flutists of his generation winning first prizes in the most highly regarded flute competitions across the world: Kobe International Flute Competition 2013, Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition 2014, Munich ARD Music Competition 2015.

Sébastian began his career at only 18 years old, when he was appointed assistant principal flute at the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra; shortly after he became a member of the Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra, and he joined the Mito Chamber Orchestra, in Japan.

After returning to Europe he deepened his knowledge of contemporary music, playing with the Ensemble Contrechamps, and freelancing for many renowned orchestras: Sébastian has always loved to be part of an orchestra, which he considers a musical “home”, enjoying working and learning more from conductors of excellence such as: Seiji Ozawa, Andris Nelsons, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Fabio Luisi, Herbert Bloomstedt, Semyon Bychkov, Simon Rattle, Heinz Holliger, Marin Alsop, Gustavo Dudamel, Zubin Metha, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding.

Apart from his orchestral experience Sébastian regularly gives solo recitals, and performs as a soloist. He’s also very active in exploring a wide range of chamber music repertoire, together with other acclaimed artists. A significant part of his life is dedicated to holding Masterclasses; between 2020 and 2022 Sebastian was also professor at the University of the Arts Bremen. He's often called as a jury member for international flute competitions.

The flute fills up most of Sébastian's time, but he likes to be a fully rounded artist, having acquired a diploma in saxophone, and being an ice- skating champion and acrobat: his conviction is that body and mind are intrinsically united in any performance art. This interest in physical activities comes from his childhood: as the eldest of six children who also became professional musicians, he still develops projects with his family, which combine circus skills and music.

Sébastian Jacot plays a rare wooden Haynes from 1999 and a 14k Parmenon.
