French-Italian flutist, Mario Caroli studied in Bologna with Annamaria Morini and in Vienna with Manuela Wiesler, who had a strong influence on him. In 1996, he won the 'Kranichsteiner Musikpreis' in Darmstadt, which enabled him to launch a dazzling career as a soloist. To date, Mario Caroli has played as a soloist with more than 150 orchestras, at the world's biggest festivals, with the most important conductors, and continues to pursue a very brilliant career. Thanks to his well-known commitment to contemporary music, flute solo repertoire has received new impulses and the greatest composers have written new concertos and splendid solo pages for him. His extensive discography counters some 45 recordings, praised by critics and audiences alike, spanning the great repertoire, concertos for flute and orchestra as well as brand new compositions, to which he is dedicated. He can often be heard on major radio stations in various countries, for which he has made countless recordings and interviews. Critics have not hesitated to speak of him as a 'phenomenon' for his interpretations of Bach, Schubert or Debussy. Free and committed musician, with a degree in Philosophy, Mario Caroli has given Masterclasses in the world's most important musical institutions and is today one of the most acclaimed pedagogues. Chair of flute at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg-im-Breisgau, his students are among the brightest flute players of the new generation and occupy prestigious positions in first-class orchestras. A cosmopolitan and polyglot artist, Mario Caroli has lived in France, in Strasbourg, for more than twenty years.
